Reigning Season 5 Division III Champions Mak Hitam 95 found themselves in unfamiliar grounds when they hosted Philippines FC SG in a late afternoon game last Sunday.
It was seemingly to be another day at the office for MH95 but a resilient PFC, whom have been at the wrong ends of games for the longest time and winless before the game; took the match to a new height as they remarkably secured their first win of the season by beating the home side by 3 goals to 2.
MH95 created history in Season 5 as they clocked a perfect season and has the longest undefeated record in the short history of MOF 11s Weekend Leagues, second only to Division I Champions Happy Feet United. Starting from a Cup Semi-Final loss to Finalist Project Vaults FC, the route hasn’t been the smoothest for MH95. Since then, a less than desirable results set of 1 draw and 2 losses including this one seemed to be hurdling a betterment of their performance in the preceding season.
The Azkals have always been known to be a tough tackling team and while they have lost 4 games, the manner in which they lost had never been one that was given up without a fight. This victory over a formidable opponent was a great morale boost for the Filipinos. An injection of great confidence will be it for PFC as they pursue to better their season in the weeks to come.
In the meantime, Division II sees a pack of 5 teams being separated with only 5 points apart from one another. It will be yet another season of competitive football as the 8 teams in Division II battle it out to be crowned Champions.
