Onside FC

We are a band of football-crazy brothers who come from different backgrounds, The Game being the common ground on which we came together, almost 15 years ago, in our early youth. Most of us are in our early to mid-twenties, pursuing academia in tertiary institutions such as NTU, NUS, SUTD and respective polytechnics, among others. Besides football, our members regularly participate in community outreach programmes and volunteer work, along with national sporting events such as the SIA-Singapore Grand Prix. We believe in youth development as well, with many opportunities for our younger talents to flourish. 

Onside FC was a recreational team previously, but we have collectively decided to embark on a slightly more competitive adventure, participating in an amateur league with Ministry of Football (MOF). Having experienced the ups and downs of last season together, we realised the potential of making Onside FC a permanent fixture for years to come. Most of our members understand the effort and commitment required for such a challenge, having represented their respective schools at the country-wide “C”, “B”, ”A” divisions, and inter-varsity level previously. Furthermore, a handful of us were trainees at the National Football Academy previously. Unfortunately, these individuals choose the pursuit of academic development instead, with studies given a priority. Despite our successes and accomplishments in football previously, we remain hungrier for success, with a maturity to achieve it. We place greater emphasis on playing the Beautiful Game and maintaining positive networking opportunities with our opponents. We are constantly looking for ways to polish our tactical nous, with every opponent providing a unique challenge each week. Our ideology revolves closely around the declaration of the late Johan Cruyff – “Quality without results is pointless. Results without quality is boring.”

Anthony Loon
Age: 33 years old
Position: Midfielder
Height: 169 cm
Weight: 60 kg
Nationality: Singaporean

Our team captain. Works hard. Pours his soul into the team. He attracts a lot of tackles, rough play and sometimes some wrestling moves. Referees always just stare in awe of the tackles with whistles on silent mode. "Cos you put on quite a show, very entertaining"

Gabriel Wong
Age: 31 years old
Position: Midfielder
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 61 kg
Nationality: Singaporean

When you think of a housefly, you think of Gabriel. Like bees to honey, Gabby sticks to his opponent like glue. The only way to stop Gabby is to have him leave the pitch earlier due to his other commitments like dance, cheerleading, MMA, water polo, book reading club and knitting. Blessed with stamina of a thousand horses, he clocks an average of 10km every Sunday. You never see Gabby walk.

Eugene Tan
Age: 29 years old
Position: Forward
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 72 kg
Nationality: Singaporean

With speed, skill and mind games, Eugene is made for the football pitch. Nobody matches his speed in the pitch, they can only STOP and STARE as he run past them and scores. With his skills and mind games, he get past players with the same skill many times. Opponents may think he has something else but no, he does the same thing again and scores. Never doubt his mind games.

Moses Tay
Age: 33 years old
Position: Midfielder
Height: 166 cm
Weight: 54 kg
Nationality: Singaporean

One of the smaller and versatile players in our team. Small because we or the opponents sometimes can't see him until he scores. His ability to be like Mystic and shapeshift should not be taken lightly. His versatility includes flying. We have seen him fly a distance when tackled or when he challenges for a header. Some say he is a magician because when he jumps for the ball? He disappears then appear somewhere else.

Jeremy Nicholas
Age: 33 years old
Position: Midfielder
Height: 168 cm
Weight: 10.94 Stone kg
Nationality: Singaporean

Our only export player from NZ. Gifted with only the right foot, and only the right, he crosses like how he crosses and road. Quick, fast and illegally. Despite his height, he  tries his best to head high balls away, protecting the defense. Even with his time spent in NZ, his physical presence in the midfield is close to invisible. However, with his right foot, he packs a mean long shot.

Clarisson Christopher
Age: 31 years old
Position: Defender
Height: 178 cm
Weight: 188 kg
Nationality: Singaporean

At 188kg, introducing the world heavy weight champion. (Literally HEAVY WEIGHT) Gifted with an ability to head away almost every ball and a wicked backheel, he has stamina compared to none. A Darth Vader on the pitch because of his coughing, choking and gasping for air. He sometimes execute some Stone Cold moves on pitch that goes unpunished. Give him a backheel at your own risk.

Edmund Tan
Age: 32 years old

Height: 180 cm

Our most composed center back. Coming from a rugby background, he is always in bandages before the game. He is so nice to opponents that sometimes we feel he is being paid.

Tristan Colombo
Age: 27 years old
Position: Midfielder
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 55 kg
Nationality: Singaporean

A very speedy and positive player. He is so fast that staying onside is a challenge.   He is so positive that he is also HIV (+ve). Hahahah. He is a menace down those flanks. People leave footprints in the sand. He leaves his farts.

Marcus Michael
Age: 31 years old

Has a $400 boots but shoots like he is wearing a $2 boots. Speaks many languages but does not know what they all mean. But he is the God of all 1st touches.

Plays in every position without complains. Have a good eye for free kicks but Justin keeps stealing them.

Frank Dason
Age: 33 years old
Position: Goalkeeper
Height: 183 cm

This man started out as a defender. But he had gotten so many yellow and red cards (& unnecessary penalties) that he is now a goal keeper. His intimidating face helps him excel in one on one situations.

Only player that can use both feet. Sometimes even using both to kick the same ball.

Justin Jerome Lo
Age: 27 years old
Position: Defender

An all rounded player that excels best in a goalkeeper position. However being ambitious, he likes to play outfield and misses almost all free kicks he takes.
