MVP Feature – Damien Ng

MVP 1

As a tribute to the selected few who are identified as Most Valuable Players of the preceding season & through a short feature, we seek to know more about these players on a weekly basis. This week, we start with the only Goalkeeper in the 10 MVPs to have won the inaugural MVP Awards in the MOF 11s Weekend Leagues : Damien Ng from Season 4 Sunshine Division Champions Rendezvous FC.

Having played as a Goalkeeper in the higher echelons of local football years before, Damien was no stranger to the small but yet vibrant football fraternity. An ex-SAF Warrior GK, Damien was an excellent catch for team Rendezvous FC as they entered the amateur football scene. It was also a natural choice as the team mates were all his close group of friends. The tall and stout GK did not look back thereafter as RFC raked storm in the leagues and tournaments that they participated in, winning accolades after accolades.

Often we hear about defence being the most fundamental part of a football team. This is aptly in the case of RFC as evidently portrayed in the proceedings of games involving RFC, Damien’s firm and steady performances as the last man defending the RFC fort stood out glaringly. This constant display of stability gave confidence and comfort to the rest of the team’s departments as they went on, often on many occasions, to rip apart their opponents during games.

Damien remains one of the main reasons why Rendezvous FC was able to clinch the Sunshine Division title in Season 4, with an astonishing result of winning 11 of their 12 games and drawing just once. With him keeping goal, RFC scored 57 goals and conceding only 5 goals in the entire campaign.

This remarkable stellar of the team will and shall continue to support their continual quest in the MOF 11s Leagues and it is without a doubt, he is one member of which the team cannot do without.

Our congratulations to Damien and Rendezvous FC !
