MOF Cup : The Route To The Final

MOF Cup Bracket

Last season Finalists, Project Vaults FC became the first team out of the 64 team MOF 11s Season 5 Cup to reach the Semi-Final stage when they derailed 22 match undefeated Season 5 Champions of Division III Mak Hitam 95 with a convincing win of 7-2. The route to this stage before was a different tale for each side, the Golden Eagles nearly tumbled at the Round 2 tie, needing a ET winner to overcome DFC while MH95 bulldozed its way from start, beating the likes of yet another Champions of Division VII, Reunite FC, Fazy Wazy FC and current Division I team 529’ers; albeit needing a Penalty Kick to eliminate 529.

Another thriller saw Champions of the preceding Sunshine Division season Rendezvous FC hurdled by another newly crowned Champions, of Division V, Aquila FC. The game started off w REZ racing off to a 2-0 only for AQL to plot an amazing return to level the scores at 2-2 at FT. Lady Luck smiled at Aquila FC as they triumphed 2-1 at the kicks, to await the victors of 2 time MOF Sunshine Division Champions Torpedo Rovers FC and Sotea Galaxy this Sunday.

The highlight would have been the unpredictable tie between Division I team Gabrielite Remix FC and Team Engineering. The latter endured a tough path to this stage while the former enjoyed relatively easy one prior to this game. It was the first time the 2 sides met and notably, the game drew a small crowd to watch. Not knowing who will win, the game progressed on with high intensity, with ENGG the side determined to fight back after Remix drew first blood. Being played at night, the tempo was a lot higher and action was noticeably non-stop. GRFC themselves went behind 1-2 as ENGG piled on the pressure. Eventually perhaps due to tired legs and losing morale due to a few controversial calls by the man in the centre, ENGG lost steam in the final 10 odd mins to lose the game 2-4.

Seeing several upsets in this season’s MOF Cup, we find ourselves soaking in the excitement as the weeks went past; upsets, high momentum games and the many Champions-vs-Champions/Ex-Champions-vs-Ex-Champions ( no less than 7 Champions in the last 16 ) …. all the ingredients of an exciting Cup competition.

Keep abreast with the news here as we bring you the updates week on week. With the Cup closing onto its final stages after a long and exhausting period, it is right now down to the wire.
